The Great Fig Heist!
A few weeks ago it looked like we were heading for a bumper crop of figs. There were going to be plenty of figs for preserve making and for sharing with the wildlife in our yard. Alas, as I write this there are few figs to be found on our giant fig trees. They’ve been absconded with.
Picnik: A Paleo & Gluten-Free Restaurant
A new restaurant opened in Austin this week – Picnik. It’s a little further from The Fairview than many of the places we recommend but it’s worth it, especially for our paleo and gluten-free eating guests. Picnik on Burnet is an offshoot of the trailer they have operated out of on South Lamar for several years. Both locations are open for breakfast & lunch, while the new restaurant is also open for dinner.
Fonda San Miguel: One of our Favorite Restaurants
Austin is full of wonderful eating opportunities. There are so many new places to try and sometimes the focus on the new leads me to overlook an old favorite restaurant. I tend to focus our recommendations on places close by, however, when guests don’t mind a short car ride, one of our favorite old school recommendations is Fonda San Miguel.
Vinaigrette Salad Bar: New off South Congress
It’s not often that we get to visit a completely new place in our South Congress neighborhood, especially one so green and delicious as the Vinaigrette salad bar restaurant. If you are in the mood for some light, healthy, and high quality farm to table dining, we can highly recommend Vinaigrette.
