Extra fees for extra service? That’s not how we do things at The Fairview.
Visited any coffee shops lately? I bet they offered WiFi for no extra charge, that is other than the couple of bucks you paid for your coffee. Want to add a little sugar or honey? No extra fees for that either. Some hotels these days seem to take a different approach with the current trend at many being to tack on a lot of extra fees. I don’t know about you, but we don’t think that’s a very hospitable way to treat our guests.
Like your favorite coffee shop, at The Fairview we provide a lot of “extras” with no extra charge.
Recently, I came across an article titled “Fees are big with the Inn crowd” which was all about the growing list of surcharges for things that most hotels call “extras”. Now, I used to spend quite a bit of time in hotels when I traveled for work, but reading this article tells me things have changed a lot since I was a road warrior.
Sure, some hotels would charge extra fees for internet access, but many of the hotels I stayed at included free WiFi at no extra charge. If there was an in-room safe it was there to be used. I couldn’t always get late checkout but if it was available I never got charged for it. Storing luggage to pick up later in the day after checkout was free too. Of course, I would tip the bellman for handling my bags but to be honest, even that was optional. It always seemed to me that services like those were not “extras”, they were just part of the overall package that a quality hotel provided to their guests.
Here at The Fairview there are just a few things we do charge extra fees for. More than 2 guests in a room means we have to bring in another bed and put out more food at breakfast – we charge a little extra for that. We have dog friendly rooms and we provide a special Lucky Dog Club goodie bag to help take care of our canine guests – we charge a little extra for that. But really, that’s about it. Much of what other hotels call “extras”, we consider just standard service.
Here’s a list of some of the things you get at The Fairview with no extra fees.
- A great buffet breakfast with locally sourced food and fresh baked goodies
- Coffee, espresso, cappuccinos and lattes made with fresh ground beans and whole milk
- Sometimes we have happy hour with wine and snacks – free for all our guests
- We do our best to accommodate late checkout requests and we never charge for the service
- We’ll hold your luggage for a while until you’re ready to leave – no extra fees for that
- Have packages delivered to our front porch and we’ll hold them for you
- Like to watch movies? – All our rooms have HDTVs with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime for free
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines hospitality as “generous and friendly treatment of visitors and guests“. At The Fairview, we try to be generous with our guests by including many “extras” along with our standard service. It’s part of our “Get what you stay for” philosophy.
