Special Diet? We get that.

Speaking from personal experience as someone with over 3 million airline miles and a need to watch what kinds of food I put into my body, traveling when you are on a special diet can be – dare I say – tasteless. But it doesn’t have to be, and at The Fairview we think we have solved that culinary conundrum quite tastefully.

How does this sound for breakfast?Cherries are a great choice for a gluten free or other special diet

  • Whole fresh cherries
  • Cut up fresh melon
  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Homemade granola with nuts and/or raisins to mix-in yourself
  • A blueberry coffee cake baked fresh that morning
  • Top it off with a cappuccino or latte made from coffee beans fresh ground individually for each cup

Now that’s a breakfast I can fill up on.

One reason I mention this issue is because of something that happened here just last week. We had a really nice family stay with us at The Sunday House for a 2 night mid-week vacation. On their first morning here, we provided them with breakfast pretty much along those lines hoping they would all enjoy it and have plenty of fuel to start their day. Unfortunately, we didn’t learn until later that one of their daughters required a special diet and could not eat anything containing wheat or gluten. That morning she had skipped eating much of what we had provided. Fortunately, her parents were used to traveling with food for her so she was well taken care of.

The next day, their breakfast was exactly as listed above. But this time, we were able to tell them that everything we served them that morning was completely gluten free.

Our homemade gluten free granola works great for a special dietImagine being a child and not being allowed to eat the same things your sister or parents are served because you have to stay on a special diet. It’s hard not to be jealous. Now imagine staying at a place where you know you can eat everything served, including fresh baked goodies like Vivian’s famous chocolate Dangerous Muffins. Imagine being a parent of a child on a special diet, knowing that you don’t have to worry about what your child is putting on their plate that morning.

I can almost hear the sigh of relief.

Here at The Fairview, we are able to accommodate almost every kind of dietary restriction. Whether your diet is gluten free, dairy free, egg free, nut free, chocolate free, corn free, soy free, vegan, paleo, SCD – or even some combination of those (just not all at the same time). We make most of our baked goods right here and we know what goes in them and how to prevent cross contamination – that makes it easier for you when you travel.

We can also help you find great places to eat in Austin that suit your special diet needs while you’re here.

We do need advance notice and it’s best if you call to talk with us so we can be certain we understand your needs completely. But rest assured, we will do our very best to provide you with a worry free breakfast that is delicious and safe to eat, no matter what your special diet is. It’s one of the ways we strive to see that you “Get what you stay for“.

Come have breakfast with us.
